Oil Massage

What is an Ayurvedic massage/Abhyanga?

Ayurvedic massage is a form of traditional holistic massage that has been practiced for thousands of years in Ayurvedic medicine. This massage involves using warm herbal oils and rhythmic strokes to stimulate the body's natural healing abilities and promote overall wellness. The massage techniques used in Ayurvedic massage are designed to balance the body's doshas, which are the three fundamental energies that govern our physical and mental well-being. The Ayurvedic practitioner will customize the massage to your individual needs and dosha type, using a variety of techniques including kneading, tapping, and rubbing. The herbal oils used in Ayurvedic massage are chosen based on their therapeutic properties, and may include ingredients like sesame, coconut, almond or sunflower oil infused with medicinal herbs. These oils help to nourish and moisturize the skin, as well as deliver the healing benefits of the herbs to the body.

Ayurvedic massage is believed to have many benefits, including reducing stress and anxiety, improving circulation, boosting the immune system, and promoting relaxation and well-being. It is often used in conjunction with other Ayurvedic treatments such as diet, herbal remedies, and meditation to support overall health and balance

What is Swedana?

Swedana is a form of Ayurvedic therapy that involves inducing sweating in a person's body through various techniques. The word "sweda" in Sanskrit means sweat or perspiration.Swedana is typically used as a preparatory or follow-up treatment to other Ayurvedic therapies such as Abhyanga (oil massage) or Panchakarma (a series of cleansing and detoxifying treatments). Swedana can help to open up the pores, relax the muscles, and increase circulation, thereby enhancing the effectiveness of other treatments. There are several methods of Swedana, including steam therapy, hot towel therapy, and warm oil therapy. In steam therapy, a person is exposed to steam generated by boiling water and herbal decoctions, while in hot towel therapy, moist towels are heated and applied to the body. Warm oil therapy involves applying warm herbal oils to the body and then inducing sweating through various techniques.

Swedana is believed to have a variety of health benefits, such as reducing muscle stiffness, relieving joint pain, improving digestion, and promoting relaxation. However, it is important to consult a qualified Ayurvedic practitioner before undergoing any Ayurvedic treatment, including Swedana.
