Ayurveda says there are 7 bodily tissues in our body-
Majja(Bone marrow/nervous tissue)
These seven tissues are produced consecutively one after the other in our body.The essence of all these tissues is called Ojas.The basic biological strength of the body’s tissues depends on it.
One hundred bites of food will produce one drop of blood, and that one hundred drops of blood will produce one drop of ojas.
Types of ojas-
Para-ojas- Superior type, dwells in heart, about eight drops, contains life itself, if diminished would result in instant death.
Apara-ojas- circulating all over the body,1/2 anjali in amount, maintains vitality and immunity, can get depleted.
Ojas can be destroyed by pretty much any negative factors, including trauma, negative emotions (anger, grief), mental stress, excess physical work and hunger.
It is made at night during restorative sleep.
Ojas follows the production of sexual fluids(shukra). Thus depletion of shukra causes less ojas production.
Destroyed by trauma, negative emotions (anger, grief), mental stress, excess physical work and hunger.
Moist food, ghee, honey, dates,sattvik diet increases ojas.
Diet to increase Ojas-
Vegetarian diet is recommended.
Balanced tastes, include all six tastes.
Gruel or stews are beneficial.
Warm cooked food is the best, dry, rough, cold, frozen food should be avoided.
One-pot meals are usually Ayurvedic.
